Abuja, 29 July, 2026 / 5:10 pm (ACI Africa). Nigeria’s Catholic Bishops have urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government to take deliberate steps to reassure Christians of their equal place in the country, saying many believers remain uncertain about the protection of their constitutional rights. Addressing President Tinubu during a courtesy visit by members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) on Tuesday, July 28, CBCN President, Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, said Christians continue to harbor legitimate concerns that require concrete government action. “Many Christians have legitimate concerns about their place in Nigeria, especially regarding the departure from the Christian/Muslim presidency, and we hope that, through deliberate government policies, those concerns will be addressed, and Christians will be reassured of their rights as citizens,” Archbishop Ndagoso said. The Local Ordinary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna added, “We expect that you will take steps to soothe frayed nerves and address the concerns.”
