ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Local religious leaders are calling for peace and unity after recent heated debates and alleged acts of violence surrounding a new mosque set to be built in Albuquerque’s North Valley. “A week ago today we had an awful event here on our campus and then on the street beside it,” said Father Vincent Chávez, pastor of St. Therese. The incident allegedly involving Romero reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between Romero’s girlfriend and Father Chávez over the pastor’s vocal support for the mosque at a previous county meeting. Romero’s girlfriend, Katrina Griego, shot a social media video at St. Therese showing a sign they posted directed to her, which read, “Racism. Speakers Wednesday highlighted the commonalities between the three religions and shared stories of their own faith journeys throughout the years.
