Mr Wakeford, who has been the Member of Parliament for Bury South since 2019, joined Labour in 2022 after defecting from the then-Conservative Government. Both of these roles will continue under new Prime Minister Burnham, who has reappointed the Bury MP to the same positions this week. His fellow Bury MP, James Frith, was also handed a role in Andy Burnham's Government. "As MP for Bury North, I've seen both the very best of our NHS and social care, and the challenges they face. He also emphasised the importance of prevention as well as treatment, and of social care alongside the NHS.
