How Compass’ consolidation cooled agent moves in New York
['Jake Indursky']
New York - The Real Deal
To an outside observer, New York City agents have their pick of power brands with which to hang their license.
Brown Harris added 12 Compass agents and lost four to Compass from Dec. 2025 to June 2026 after adding just three and losing nine during the same period the prior year.
BHS’ switch to a net importer of Compass agents comes as no surprise, as agents looking to make a change have seemingly fewer choices.
Even prior to the brand consolidation, Compass’ market share in the city caught the attention of state prosecutors.
“What Compass is envisioning is a seller represented by a Compass agent [and] a buyer represented by a Compass agent,” CFA Director of Competition and Market Fairness Emily Peterson-Cassin told TRD earlier this month.
