The car continued to circulate in this manner for several laps, with a mechanical black flag shown while under the control of the safety car for a separate incident. On the same lap that the flag was shown, the tailpipe broke free, bouncing away from the car heading into Turn 4. The disqualification was for completing a full lap with the mechanical black flag shown, however Tracey contests that this is not the case. That, however, was dismissed during the appeal process, resulting in the disqualification being upheld. The Darwin result leaves Tracey seventh in the championship standings, trailing leader Nathan Herne by 70 points.
