Sen. John Cornyn’s planned meeting on Wednesday with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche was canceled, imperiling the chances of his nomination advancing through the Judiciary Committee this week. The canceled meeting was slated to take place a day before the committee was scheduled to vote on Blanche’s nomination. “I’m not prepared to vote ‘yes,’ let me put it that way,” Cornyn said when asked if he planned to vote “no” on Thursday. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina), another Judiciary Committee member, is aligned with Cornyn on what he needs to see from Blanche in order to support the nomination. A “no” vote by either Cornyn or Tillis would likely doom Blanche’s chances of getting confirmed as attorney general.
