On Tuesday, Archbishop Eamon Martin met with senior leaders of OpenAI in Armagh in what he described as a “fruitful” meeting. The meeting was attended by Head of OpenAI Ireland, Emma Redmond and Derek Nolan, the company’s Policy and Partnerships Lead for Ireland and the Nordics. Following the meeting in Armagh, Archbishop Martin said there was a responsibility on technology companies to contribute to the “ethical shaping” of AI tools. “I am grateful that OpenAI Ireland met with me to discuss the Holy Father’s encyclical letter at this time when humanity stands at a historic crossroads,” he said.
