It is an exploration of the influence parents have on young athletes. "I've been thinking a lot about the people who helped me reach the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics," Martens said. Raised in Vernon, Martens represented Canada for more than a decade in rhythmic gymnastics, capturing Commonwealth Games gold before competing at the Olympic Games. "The more I wrote, the more I realized this wasn't really a book about sport," Martens said.
