A widespread power outage struck large parts of Kenya around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, 29 July, affecting Nairobi, Coast, Mt. Kiambu county's solar streetlights kept bus parks and public spaces illuminated during Wednesday night's nationwide power blackout. "When a nationwide power blackout brought much of the country to a standstill, Kiambu refused to go dark. The Kiambu's bus parks and other public spaces remained illuminated by our newly installed solar streetlights," Wamatangi wrote in a social media post. The county government has already installed 12,000 solar streetlights as part of its first phase of deployment.
