Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has added a new chapter to its botanical heritage with the discovery of a previously unknown plant species in the Eastern Ghats.
Deputy Chief Minister and Forests & Environment Minister Pawan Kalyan has named the species 'Croton ubbalamadugensis', after its natural habitat near the Ubbalamadugu Waterfalls in Tirupati district.
Belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family, the newly discovered plant is distinguished by its unique morphology, reproductive characteristics and fragrant leaves.
It belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family and was discovered in the Kambakam Hills near the Ubbalamadugu Waterfalls (Tada Falls) in the Tirupati district.
The discovery is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to document and preserve the unique flora of the Eastern Ghats.
