Over 5 crore ITRs filed for AY 2026-27; I-T Dept cautions taxpayers against last-minute rushThe Income Tax Department said over 5 crore ITRs have been filed for AY 2026-27 and urged taxpayers to file ITR-1 or ITR-2 before the July 31 deadline. “Over 5 crore ITRs have already been filed for A.Y. As of July 27, more than 4 crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed for the assessment year. Moreover, during FY 2024-25, more than 9 crore taxpayers filed income tax returns as of March 31, 2025. Of these, 8.64 crore returns were e-verified, while refunds amounting to Rs 4,35,008 crore were issued during the period.
