These conditions caused widespread damage to communities and power grid infrastructure, resulting in outages for more than 530,000 customers across the area. As of 6 a.m. on July 28, service had been restored to nearly 300,000 customers. ComEd reported that its customers have faced an unprecedented level of severe weather this year with more major storm events impacting the region so far than in all of last year. The company expects to restore power to 80 percent of affected customers by noon on Wednesday, July 29. The most severe damage was seen in Chicago Heights, Maywood, Crestwood, Bolingbrook, University Park, Glenbard, Libertyville and Chicago’s South Side.
