RAPID CITY, S.D.— A new program is helping Custer County students get a head start on saving for their higher education. The Black Hills Area Community Foundation's Trailhead Scholars program is opening $500 529 college saving accounts for Custer School District kindergartners. Trailhead Scholars is only offered in the Custer School District but the foundation hopes to expand the program to other local communities. We'd like to have this Trailhead Scholars program in communities all across the Black Hills. Qualifying families will then receive a packet in the mail on how to sign up for Trailhead Scholars accounts.
