ROCKERVILLE, S.D.— Hippie Hole has grown in popularity over the years and so has the number of rescue calls to the area. Rockerville Fire Chief Gail Schmidt tells NewsCenter1 that Hippie Hole is a difficult location to access. Rockerville VFD Chief Gail Schmidt says, "There is no signage at this location that talks about the challenges of of getting down to hippie hole as well as getting out of Hippie Hole. This is again a U.S. Forest Service area. ADVERTISEMENTSchmidt adds that with the current fire danger emergency crews are on standby and a rescue at hippie hole could require as many as thirty responders.
