Australian Mikaela Dingley faces a nervous wait after being upgraded to bronze following a crash involving countrywoman Eliza Ault-Connell at the Commonwealth Games. The chaos began when Ault-Connell, racing along the rail having started in lane one on the wet track, had Alphonse and Sharma come up on her outside at the first bend. At the same time Ault-Connell slowed and her front wheel veered across lane two, with a secondary collision with another athlete sending both tipping over. Officials opted not to restart the race and Scotland’s Melanie Woods won gold in a new Games record time of 3:33.39. Crates said it was “such a shame” and noted Scotland’s second athlete Joanna Robertson “was probably heartbroken” to have been caught up in the drama.
