The Knapton Lion in Main Street, Knapton, is one of 10 York licensed premises shortlisted by readers of The Press for its popular Best Pub competition, which is running again this year. The Knapton Lion, formerly The Red Lion, was closed for several years before Tom took over, refurbished, and renamed it. The York Press business editor Darren Greenwood reviewed The Knapton Lion in May last year and commended the pub for its top quality and tip top beers, and the food was generously portioned. The Knapton Lion recently invested in a Le Verre de Vin wine preservation system, allowing for an elevation of its wine list. Voting slips for The York Press Best Pub 2026 are in copies of the newspaper up to and including Saturday, August 1 and must be posted off to the address provided to count.
