Authorities urge water conservation amid third-level heat alert
['Attila Leitner']
The Budapest Times
As the heat continues to intensify, the national chief public health officer has ordered a third-level heat alert effective from midnight Thursday, while service providers and local authorities across the country are simultaneously calling for water conservation to prevent shortages.
Drinking water suppliers are calling on residents to use water sparingly and responsibly due to the expected extreme heat.
The company indicated that if drinking water consumption does not decrease noticeably, it will once again be forced to initiate the imposition of water restrictions.
The water management sector has prepared to ensure the cooling water supply of the Paks nuclear power plant.
The Szentes municipal government has designated cooling points in six public institutions for the duration of the third-level heat alert, and during the heat alert mist gates are operating on Kossuth Square and in Millennium Park.
