A public art installation celebrating the beauty of the magnificent elephant is on its way to Back Bay. The Great Elephant Migration will bring approximately 100 life-sized elephant sculptures to the Commonwealth Avenue Mall between Arlington and Fairfield streets in Boston. According to a Boston Globe report, the elephants are crafted by hundreds of Indian artists from the invasive Lantana camara plant, transforming an ecological threat into art. According to the Globe, individuals can purchase elephants ranging from $8,000 to $22,000, with installments benefiting conservation causes. In Boston, beneficiaries include the New England Aquarium's right whale initiatives and the Boston Public Art Triennial.
