The Haskins Retail Centre, which lies off the A371 Townsend in the centre of Shepton Mallet, currently boasts a large car park behind the town's police station, Greggs and Subway outlets. McDonald's Restaurant Ltd. has submitted plans to build a new outlet at the western end of this car park, with the remaining spaces being reconfigured to provide a safer access to the site. The new restaurant is expected to be open from 6am to midnight daily, and is expected to create up to 120 local jobs. A spokesperson for Planware Ltd. (representing McDonald's) said: "The restaurant will provide 50 covers for visitors to eat their meals within a relaxed modern environment.
