The National Population Commission (NPC) has launched a digital birth and death registration system in Kano State aimed at improving the efficiency, security and accessibility of civil registration services. The National Commissioner representing Kano State, Dr Aminu Ibrahim-Tsanyawa, inaugurated the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) System on Wednesday at Unguwar Uku Primary Healthcare Centre in Kano. Ibrahim-Tsanyawa described birth registration as more than a legal obligation, saying it is a fundamental human right and the first official recognition of a child’s existence. He reminded parents and guardians that birth registration remains free for children under five years and warned them against patronising illegal registration centres that issue fake birth certificates. The commissioner also appealed to media organisations to intensify public awareness campaigns on the importance of timely birth and death registration.
