The site, located south of Reading near junction 11 of the M4, will include a battery energy storage system and expanded charging infrastructure as part of the refreshed scheme. The planned solar canopies are expected to generate enough electricity each year to power more than 440 homes or deliver 150,000 EV charges. A mix of rapid and standard charging points will be installed to cater to different user needs. Mereoak Park and Ride currently offers around 600 parking spaces off the A33 and is managed daily by Reading Borough Council. The site is expected to stay open during construction, with work carried out in phases to minimise disruption.
