Before it got too hot, Herefordshire NFU members came together for a pre-harvest health and safety event on a farm at Tillington. Dave Swallow, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service group commander, covered fire safety on the farm, before moving on to practical demonstrations. Other practical sessions included a trauma first aid session, workshop safety, trailer and road safety, and crop protection product safety and handling. There was a strong turnout for this event, which was pleasing, and more has been done during Farm Safety Week, which ran until 24 July. The first 10 minutes following a major trauma incident is crucial and early action can directly influence survival outcomes.
