When ‘Willow’ does arrive, it’s percussion-slapped and club-ready, turbocharged and hypnotic in the specific way that Arca has always understood: repetition as a trance state rather than a hook. The album art shows Arca flanked by two owls, which in Greek myth guard and also belong to the underworld. Arca said the record came out of losing control, of collaborating with her unconscious to keep inertia from deciding where the music went.
