Officers said the department's Skyport drone unit launched a remote aircraft to the scene, which recorded footage showing the suspect striking the car's windows with a bicycle seat and a brick. The drone pilot relayed live updates to responding officers as they made their way to the location, giving them a clearer picture of the situation before they arrived. LVMPD pointed to the case as further evidence of the value its drone program brings to field operations. "This is another example of how LVMPD's remote drone program provides officers with immediate situational awareness while helping us respond more safely and effectively," LVMPD wrote. The Skyport program allows trained pilots to deploy drones ahead of or alongside responding units, feeding real-time video back to dispatch and officers in the field.
