Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, is drafting legislation that would reintroduce mandatory National Youth Service (NYS) training for all high school graduates, replacing the current voluntary enlistment system. Speaking during a podcast interview, the first-term lawmaker revealed that the proposed Bill is in its final stages before tabling in Parliament. He also ordered disciplined forces and law enforcement agencies to prioritize NYS graduates during hiring. Jalang’o’s proposed Bill would effectively reverse that shift. Once Jalang’o formally submits the draft, the Bill will go through publication, public participation, and parliamentary debate before a final vote in the National Assembly.
