SHA Sets Strict Deadline for SHIF Payments, Warns Employers

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has warned employers that late remittance of employee health contributions will attract a monthly penalty of two percent.
The agency issued the compliance directive on Wednesday, July 29, stepping up enforcement under the Social Health Insurance Act of 2023.
“SHA reminds all employers registered under the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023 and the Social Health Insurance Regulations, 2024 of their statutory obligation to register employees and deduct and remit Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) contributions,” SHA stated.
This regulatory framework rests on the Social Health Insurance Act, which took effect on November 22, 2023, completely repealing the former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Act.
Since October 2024, the state officially phased out all legacy NHIF registrations, channeling all statutory health contributions through SHA.
