Tesco has applied for a premises licence for a new Express store at 19 Black Horse Hill, the address formerly occupied by LEAF, which closed in January 2025. The application seeks permission to sell alcohol from 6am to midnight, seven days a week, with the premises open to the public during the same hours. The store forms part of an approved scheme to convert the site of the pub building - which dates back to 1822 and for much of its history was known as the Black Horse - into a multi-use development. Alongside the convenience store there will also be five new homes and twenty car parking spaces. The pub has been vacant for more than 18 months and one resident told the Globe the building has visibly deteriorated during that time.
