RNLI to mark 25th anniversary of lifeguard service on Wirral beach today

To mark the anniversary, 42 people will stand in formation on New Brighton Beach this morning to represent each life saved by RNLI lifeguards in the north west since the service began.
Peter Dawes, RNLI lifeguard general manager, said: "As a charity we are here to save lives at sea.
Senior RNLI lifeguard Sarah Abbott, 24, who joined the service in 2019 at the age of 17, reflected on the anniversary and the evolution of the team.
After assistance from RNLI lifeguards, Myka was able to stay calm, regain control and continue the swim.
‘Even very strong swimmers can get intro trouble – the RNLI lifeguarding service is so important.
