Developers Mic Mac have submitted a planning application to North Somerset Council to build a major extension to the east side of the village of Backwell. There are already about 800 homes under construction in the village, with another major extension to the west and homes also controversially being built on the beloved Farleigh Fields. They said: “Backwell has more than satisfied [the] government’s requirement and actual need for housing with an additional 800 houses with planning permission. Backwell is being disproportionately targeted — and all of this proposed planning application sits on grade 1,2 and 3a agricultural land.” Already, it is common to see placards and signs throughout Backwell showing opposition to the number of new homes being built.
