The motion, tabled by Independent representative, Councillor Dan Kerr (Torrent DEA) at the July 23 monthly meeting of Mid Ulster District Council, also called for a boycott of this autumn’s games against Israel. “The community that would be affected by the decision [would be] the minority Jewish community living within the Mid Ulster District, together with Jewish residents, visitors and others who identify with or support the Jewish community. “This has the potential to leave members of the local Jewish community feeling excluded, marginalised or unfairly singled out by their own local authority. “Given the small size of the Jewish community within the district, the impact of such a motion is likely to fall disproportionately upon that minority community. “Accordingly, we contend that the decision is one which would have a disproportionate adverse impact on a section of the community, namely the Jewish community within the District.
