At the latest council meeting, Ulster Unionist Councillor Mark Ovens, who has long campaigned for the return of the fireworks event, welcomed the development. “I’m really pleased at this outcome of a new expression of interest process,” he said. “It would be useful to get an update on the process and that timelines and timeframes are still okay,” he added. Director of Community and Wellbeing John Boyle also told members that engagement had started with an organisation following the expression of interest process. An update on progress is expected to be brought before members at the September council meeting.
