The Mid Norfolk Railway has made the decision not to operate steam locomotives due to the prolonged dry weather, which poses an increased fire risk. Although its risk assessment framework currently permits steam operations, the railway has chosen to halt them as a responsible measure. A spokesman for Mid Norfolk Railway said: "Whilst we understand many of our passengers, volunteers and supporters will be disappointed, this decision has been made as a precautionary measure and reflects our commitment to acting responsibly during the current conditions." Staff said that even though the current fire risk status technically allows for steam services to continue, the railway is opting for extra caution in light of broader concerns.
