Care provision is a massive issue now – and it’s going to get even greater over the next few years and decades. Mr Burnham was absolutely right this week to say that the lack of care home beds is going to cripple the NHS; it already is in many hospitals. And while care home beds might be cheaper than hospital beds, they are still expensive. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the government asking us to pay a bit more in tax to ensure that if we need care, it will be there. If people had to pay a bit more tax, they may end up with a bit less in savings.
