WPD patrol vehicles currently feature an all-blue light bar. The first vehicles to receive the new system will be unmarked patrol vehiclesResearch cited by WPD indicates red lighting is more visible during the day, while blue lighting is more visible at night. “The safety of our officers and the community is always our highest priority,” Wilmington Police Chief Ryan Zuidema said. “Transitioning to red and blue emergency lighting enhances the visibility and immediate recognition of our patrol vehicles, helping drivers identify law enforcement more quickly and respond appropriately by shifting lanes.”
