Andrew Riddett, 38, is yet to enter a plea over a charge relating to the violence which took place on June 2 on St Denys Road in Portswood. Riddett was charged with violent disorder, accused of spitting at police and racially and verbally abusing police officers during the protests. Southampton Crown Court heard how Riddett is accused of spitting blood “from some distance” at the police officers in the cordon and referring to one of the police officers as a racial slur. Prosecutor Siobhan Linsley added that: “The hostility displayed to police that day was extremely high.” The court also heard how Riddett, who was riding a bike at the time, fell off causing an injury and bleeding to his face.
