After Sabah and Johor, two competing stories are fighting for control of the narrative before the coming general election. The Johor state election on 11 July set off fresh debate over two competing stories about Malaysia’s ‘unity government’. Alarm bells have understandably gone off within Pakatan Harapan, the coalition comprising the DAP, PKR and Amanah. The general election is due by 2027, and possibly could be held by the end of 2026. Political observers are watching closely for the outcome of the Negeri Sembilan state election on 1 August.
