Early this year, German multinational software giant, SAP, tried to erase its collective agreements in Israel at the click of a button. On 27 July, Histadrut, the SAP workers’ committee and SAP management signed a new collective agreement renewing all collective agreements at the company for a further three years. On 16 April, more than 120 SAP workers and representatives from workers’ committees across the Israeli economy demonstrated outside the home of SAP Israel CEO Orna Kleinmann, carrying placards reading “SAP without workers is just code” and “Rights aren’t erased at the click of a button”. Gad Ravid, Chair of the SAP workers’ committee, was blunter: “SAP is a unionized company; that is how it has been, and that is how it will remain in the future.” This agreement shows what organized tech workers can win – and we congratulate all SAP union members in Israel who stood up for it.”
