Published July 29, 2026Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...Rachel Gobbel Norment, 92, artist, educator, writer, and dreamwork facilitator, passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida on June 8. Born April 3, 1934, in Durham, North Carolina, she grew up in Greensboro on the campus of Greensboro College, where her father served as president. Their children were born in North Carolina in the 1960s, and the couple were married for 58 1/2 years, until Owen’s death in 2016. Rachel taught art and elementary grades in Virginia and North Carolina before settling in Hampden Sydney, Virginia in 1966. Rachel is survived by her daughter, Marcia Saulo (Paul); her son, Russ Norment (Kim); grandson, Bronson Saulo; three step grandsons, Mason Rudolph, Goodman Rudolph and Wilson Ridenour, and extended family.
