An ABC RN Breakfast story reported:The Australian War Memorial has attracted fierce criticism for its minimal depiction of the frontier wars.
It is my opinion that this proposal is contrary to the charter of the Australian War Memorial as expressed in the Australian War Memorial Act of 1980, which replaced preceding Acts including the 1925 Act which established the War Memorial.
Australian military historians have used the term “Frontier Wars” for decades; the Frontier Wars have been incorporated into larger studies of Australian military history in the work of David Horner, Jeffrey Grey, John Connor, Craig Wilcox, Chris Coulthard-Clark and John Coates.
To my knowledge, the War Memorial Council has no mandate or remit to redraft its own charter or Australian military history.
The campaign will be called Hands off the Australian War Memorial.
