The bones were collected and bagged before Kevin Petersen, curator at Richmond's marine fossil museum Kronosaurus Korner, returned to the site three years later. He uncovered the rest of what proved to be an enormous ichthyosaur or marine reptile, stretching about eight metres across the excavation area.
