Illinois may have found one — and other states should pay attention.
This June, Illinois lawmakers passed a tax on the digital advertising revenue of corporations like Google, Meta and Amazon.
It took years of work from community organizations, unions and advocates to push Illinois lawmakers to close corporate tax loopholes and make wealthy corporations pay more.
In late 2024, several organizations helped form the Illinois Revenue Alliance, bringing together community groups, labor unions and policy advocates around a broader progressive revenue agenda.
The question is straightforward: should states cut healthcare, schools and assistance for struggling families — or should immensely profitable corporations pay more in taxes?
