The number of confirmed cyclospora cases in North Carolina has continued to rise, with state health officials reporting718 cases and 24 hospitalizations since May 1. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced the updated figures Tuesday and launched a new online dashboard that will provide weekly updates on the outbreak each Tuesday. Health officials still have not identified a single source responsible for the increase in illnesses. State health officials said they are continuing to work with local, state and federal partners to determine what is driving the outbreak. Health officials said washing fresh fruits and vegetables may reduce the amount of the parasite but may not eliminate it completely.
