Our Lady of Medjugorje shrine in Herzegovina desecrated, church set ablaze at world-famous Catholic pilgrimage site

Welcome
Bosnian authorities arrested a suspect Tuesday after the overnight attacks, which targeted both the famed Marian shrine on Apparition Hill and nearby St. James Church.
Surveillance footage showed a man entering St. James Church, dousing the altar with gasoline before igniting a blaze that rapidly engulfed part of the sanctuary.
In a statement, the Medjugorje Parish Office condemned the desecration.
Medjugorje, in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, has attracted millions of pilgrims since 1981, when six children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary on Apparition Hill.
Bosnian police continue investigating both the desecration of the Marian shrine and the suspected arson attack on St. James Church as restoration work gets underway at one of Catholicism's best-known pilgrimage destinations.
