Can you remember the last time you got stuck at a railroad crossing? But for residents in north Minneapolis’ Camden neighborhood, blocked railroad crossings are a way of life — a near-daily occurrence that will eat up 15 minutes on a good day and often many more than that. Hundreds and hundreds of delaysOpen up a map and it’s immediately apparent what’s driving many of these issues: Humboldt Yard, a railyard that splits the Camden neighborhood in two. Canadian Pacific Kansas City, a Canadian railway holding company, runs an average of 25 trains a day through the railyard, according to the city’s application for a federal Railroad Crossing Elimination grant.
