The footage, provided by DJI Drone Essex, shows queues stretching the full length of Canvey Way, with long queues forming on the Waterside Roundabout as many drivers look to divert into Benfleet due to the closure of London Road. The closure, which began on July 25 and will remain in place until August 15, is to allow Cadent to carry out essential gas works in the Tarpots area. London Road’s closure has pushed the majority of traffic onto Canvey Way, a route already known for heavy congestion even without roadworks. Dame Rebecca Harris said: "The traffic chaos caused by the Cadent works at Tarpots has exposed just how fragile Castle Point’s road network is." Traffic is currently backed up the entire length of Canvey Way to Sadlers Farm roundabout, with delays also spreading into Benfleet, past the train station.
