Several waterfowl have died at Black's Canal in Raphael Park due to suspected avian botulism, a disease that affects birds and other wildlife. "Based on the symptoms observed, these incidents are believed to be associated with avian botulism, a naturally occurring bacterium that can affect birds and other animals. "The risk to people and pets is low, and notices will shortly be placed in the park advising visitors of precautionary measures." The post said: "There is definitely botulism in the lake which is having a serious impact on birds with several dying. If you spot any dead or dying birds, alert the council via parks@havering.gov.uk or phone 01708 434343 or 01708 433999 outside normal hours.
