The incident took place on Selsley Common, where concerns have been raised following recent wildfires across Europe and ongoing appeals to keep commons safe by avoiding fire-related activities. A spokesperson for Stroud District Council said: "It's disappointing to see evidence of a fire having been lit on Selsley Common. "What's also concerning is that the fire appears to have been lit on The Toots, a prehistoric long barrow and Scheduled Monument. It said: "Please remember that fires, barbecues and camping stoves are not allowed on the commons at any time of year."
