The Social Health Authority (SHA) has warned employers of a 2 per cent monthly penalty for failing to remit employee health contributions on time. The announcement was made by the authority on July 29, coming at a time when SHA moves to enforce compliance among registered employers under the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023. “SHA reminds all employers registered under the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023 and the Social Health Insurance Regulations, 2024 of their statutory obligation to register employees and deduct and remit Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) contributions,” SHA stated. This obligation stems from the Social Health Insurance Act, which took effect on 22 November 2023 and replaced the old National Health Insurance Fund Act (NHIF Act) in its entirety.
