Rookie officer Ethan Hart (Adam Wesley) is on his final step before becoming a full-fledged LAPD officer. His training officer, Riley Dawson (Patrick Scott Lewis), is a veteran whose jaded cynicism rubs Ethan the wrong way. Ethan sees the grief buried under Riley’s cynicism, and Riley sees the foundation behind Ethan’s idealism. What Liu has delivered is an indie short that reads like a crime procedural, rivaling any TV cop drama. The main contrast of the film is the Boy Scout optimism of the rookie on the force butting up against the cynicism of a cop who’s been on the beat way too long.
