In 2006, a routine mammogram revealed pre-cancerous cells in both breasts—a recognised long-term side effect of childhood leukaemia treatment. She and her team discovered that mebendazole can lower MYB levels in leukaemia cells, removing a key survival mechanism and leading to cell death.
